A sermon on 1 John 3:1-3

All Saints’ Day (Observed), 5 November 2017

All Saints’ Day provides opportunity for us to remember with thanksgiving all the saints of God. We remember those who have gone before us, out of the great tribulation. We rejoice in the saints side by side with us now in Christ. We hold fast to this faith for the saints yet to be born in Christ. All Saints Day is a thanksgiving for all the people of the past, present and future with whom we have eternal communion in Christ. “Beloved, now we are the children of God.”

1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
